Mounting a TV bracket on a plasterboard wall may seem intimidating, especially if you don't have any DIY experience. However, with the right techniques and a bit of preparation, this project can become a simple and stylish improvement to your space. A properly installed TV bracket not only enhances your room’s aesthetics but also optimises the available space. Follow our five essential steps to successfully complete the installation and enjoy a perfect view of your television.
The first crucial step is to select a bracket that suits both your screen and the structure of your plasterboard wall. Make sure the bracket is compatible with the size and weight of your TV. Options include fixed, tilting, and articulating mounts. For plasterboard walls, a fixed mount is often the easiest to install, but tilting or articulating models can offer greater flexibility—especially if you need to adjust the viewing angle.
ERARD has developed dedicated solutions for installing an offset TV bracket on drywall.
How does it work?
It involves a steel plate that is fixed to the metal studs behind the drywall using expansion screws, onto which the TV bracket is mounted.
ERARD’s Placo kits include a wall plate, a metal detector with built-in bubble level, a set of 6 FISCHER expansion screws, and an expansion tool. Two versions are available:
KIT PLACO CLIFF, specifically designed for installing brackets from the CLIFF range
KIT PLACO EXO, specifically designed for installing brackets from the EXO range
Before drilling, it’s essential to locate the studs behind the plasterboard. These are typically spaced 40 cm or 60 cm apart and provide the necessary support for a secure mount. Use a stud finder or gently tap on the wall to locate them, then mark their positions for easy reference during installation.
To ensure a successful installation, gather the following materials:
Once you’ve located the studs and prepared your tools, it’s time to drill. Position the TV bracket on the wall where you want it, and use a bubble level to check it’s straight. Drill holes at the marked points, insert the appropriate plugs, then firmly screw the bracket into the studs.
After securing the bracket, all that remains is to mount your TV. Most brackets include a safety mechanism to lock the screen in place. Be sure to follow the instructions to ensure a secure installation. Once the TV is mounted, check the alignment and adjust if necessary.
Installing a wall-mounted TV bracket on drywall is a project anyone can tackle—even beginners. By following these clear steps, you can transform your living space and enjoy your flat screen in optimal conditions.
